BBC.com – Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has agreed a new two-year contract, extending his 21-year reign at the club. Wenger and club owner Stan Kroenke met on Monday to determine the Frenchman’s future, with the decision relayed to directors at a Tuesday board meeting.
Did Arsne do it again, or did Arsne do it again? After a brutally critical year for Mousierre Arsene Wenger, he not only finishes off with a FA cup final, but he always says. “fuck you,” to all his haters, and signs a 2 year contract extension. Man nobody in the history of football has been so oddly good, but also, so mediocre at the same time.
First of all credit where credit is due, Arsene Wenger has had a really good career as a manager. It’s starts with early success, winning the premier league title in his second year, and two more in the next 5 years. But, the league title has eluded him since 2004, and the Gunners have only placed in 2nd twice ever since.
I’ll be honest the whole, ‘Wenger Out,’ thing has been fucking with my brain. On one side I say keep him. They just finished 2nd place, in a late win over Spurs mind you, and are probably a couple pieces from contending again. Yes it’s true, the last time they finished in 5th they fired there coach and hired Wenger, but, Wenger has proven to be a great FA cup coach, hopefully translate that into the league.
Now my other self says to cut his head off like he’s motherfucking Eddard Stark. The facts are the facts, all major team managers, are all relatively young. Pep Guardiola (46) Mourinho (54) Conté (47) Allegri (49) Zizou (44) Emery (45) Porchettino (45). The list goes on and on. But old sack of balls Wenger is (67) old enough to be some of the others father. It’s time to let in a younger, more modern mister, come in and take the reigns of Arsene. Someone like Patrick Viera who’s done a solid job in MLS, or even Thierry Henry who’s been assisting Belgium for over a year now.
I believed in Wenger out all season, until Saturday’s FA Cup final. Arsenal straight up took Chelsea to town. The first 30 minutes the Gunners straight dominanted holding most possession in the last third. And just like that, Wenger stole another FA Cup and secured himself another 2 years with the Gunners, only to probably be sacked next year. At least it will lead to more moments like this,
