Pizarro to Miami? Carli Lloyd out? US Soccer owns Costa Rica

Yesterday’s Superb Owl marks the end of another NFL season full of bad guys being praised for their on the field action. But more importantly, it marks the beginning of my favorite period of the MLS, rumor mill mania. And if there’s anything yesterdays NFL game taught us, it’s that Shakira and JLO can still throw 95 on the black. How does that relate to this MLS season? Well it doesn’t. But it sure was entertaining.

This guy gets it.

So briefly, let’s go over everything I’ve been too busy (or lazy, depending on how you see it) to write about since last I left you. The NWSL and the MLS both had their drafts. We learned that apparently, there are about 25 or so people in Nashville with nothing better to do at noon on a Wednesday.

We learned that the Chicago Red Stars would rather have a new Keurig Coffee maker than first round draft picks. We learned that Mallory Pugh was expendable, and that Hallie Mace really didn’t want to play in New Jersey. We learned that Alyse LaHue can turn a bag of peanuts into 10k USD probably.

We also saw Chicharito sign with the Galaxy. To be honest, good on the Galaxy to get their own Baby Yoda. Can’t wait to see Cheech manage his own playing time as his career, “winds down,” slowly of course. It can be ten years. Who knows.

Lucas Zelarayán chose Columbus which made fans happy. Chará reunited with his brother in Portland. And FC Cincinnati fans were generally okay with Gaston Pereiro leaving them on read.

State of MLS today

Uhhh… anyone care for another Inter Miami rumor? Apparently Inter Miami (which by the way 100 out of 100 times, I always start with Inter Mil.. Miami) is after yet another big name player. Let’s update that list of, “potential signings,” for Miami. Almendra Cavani Suárez Silva Martínez Funes Muri Aguero Cavani(again) Rodolfo Pizarro? And what a signing that would be. One of Mexico’s best talents, fully capable of playing in Europe. He’d also be great for Miami’s huge Mexi Latin fan base.

I can’t imagine a meeting between the GM and Beckham. “Okay so David, is there anyone in mind you want me to try and go after to add to this team?” “Everyone.” “What do you mean? Like just give me some names in particular.” “Everyone.”

I mean is it someone on the inside just messing with us. “And then, I told him we were entertaining, get this get this, Sergio Aguero!” (actually ROFL’s) I mean, if these rumors are any true how bad can the negotiations be?

“Right, so, which one of our players did you have in mind? Is it Collado, or Araujo, or a Lenglet?”

“We want Suárez.”

“Oh, umm jeez. I mean. You have a price in mind.”

“5 dollars.”

But enough about failed transfers, let’s talk about FC Cincinnati. Because Jurgen Locaida is on his way to Cincy. Keeping Bobby Woods wasting in the basement of German football. From what I hear Locaida is a great number 10 that will do a lot for Cincy. But to be honest, any addition is better that what was on the field last year. However, it does baffle me that after giving up 75 goals last season, the biggest change they’ve done to the defense is get a very veteran defender from Sweden. I don’t know how that’s a significant enough improvement. I guess the best defense is better offense.

Many other teams have improved as well. Portland Timbers have done a great job of signing affordable quality players with the other Chará and Mora. Chicago has signed some okay talent, but noticeably failed in landing Pizarro after reportedly teaming up with Adidas to make an offer. Julian Gressel forced a trade to Washington. And good for him, either get the bag, or GTFO. Apparently the new hot craze is to sign fullbacks as DP’s? Not my style but to each their own I guess. And finally, Alan Pulido was somehow worth $10 million.

Carli Lloyd Olympic spot in trouble?

So I get that after you have the type of career Carli Lloyd has had, you start to receive these special treatments, like you get a secured roster spot, and maybe some playing time. But, I can’t help myself in saying, “boy Carli sure doesn’t look the same.” I get it. You were at the top of the footballing world a couple years ago. And guess what, your an all time GREAT! A LEGEND! But, Father Time is chomping at your ankles.

Now maybe my judgement has gone to far. It’s a no brainer that critiquing a player after 90 minutes is extremely stupid. But I my friends, am an idiot. I sometimes don’t know my left from my right. Hell, if you haven’t noticed already, I no read so good. But I can say this, something didn’t feel right. And that goes for Rapinoe too. This Vlatko team looks to go 100 mph, and well, you too can’t go that fast. At least not for 90 minutes. So let’s be okay with the thought that, maybe you should earn your Olympic spot. This might be both your Chicharito moments. Maybe it’s the beginning of, dare I say it, no I won’t say the R word. But it’s just a thought.

Apart from that, no surprise, the USWNT has dominated the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifiers. There’s actually a game later today on Fox Sports 1. It will decide who wins the group, but let’s be honest, there is NO CHANCE that Costa Rica will win. And another thing, Panama is NOT GOOD. I don’t wanna hear, “it sucks so much to see these poor girls go to compete and lose to the US every time.” Or “they played a hard fought game,” or what ever bullshit woe is THEM tweet. We ARE the mountain! If the shoe was on the other foot, they would not hesitate to kick us while we were down. So I say, GO FOR THE NECK EVERY SINGLE TIME!

I caught maybe 20 minutes of the USMNT game vs Costa Rica. Yikes. I mean. It’s not that the MNT played bad. On the contrary, I thought give them the circumstance of fielding non Euro players, the team played well, considering 90% of the team hasn’t hit puberty.

But let’s call a spade a spade. Dominating the ball possession does not make you a winning team. Nor do I think that there are enough pieces to add, that’ll make this team dominant. I assume the idea is to qualify for the World Cup this time. I don’t not see that happening. But it won’t be easy. Again, it’s probably stupid that I base my opinion off 1 game, but there’s only so much that could change.

What best came out of this game was it served the right purpose. Getting this team ready for the Olympic qualifiers. Which they haven’t qualified for in 12 years! I don’t think there was a hair below my neck the last time they played in the Olympics. Maybe this time will be different. Maybe this time we medal. And not just any medal. We going for Gold or nothing, and show the ladies that we too can win a world championship, or, at the very least, also losing in the quarter-finals.

Well that’s enough words outta me. If you ask me, or literally anybody else, the blog was however many words are here, too long. Later.
