Yes! The rich get richer! Not only have they replaced El Tata Martino with Frank de Boer (admittedly he has been fired everywhere he’s been but he’s got a decent squad in ATL to work with), but have found a replacement DP for the potential, almost certain, departure of Miguel Almiron. It isn’t often a team that has dominated its league only gets better. I mean, sure Barcelona signed Neymar after losing only 10 games in all competitions the season prior, but it’s a different game when Atlanta United made the league poop out little bricks all season, and then go out and sign the Libertadores championship goal clinching player. While the signing of Ezequiel Barco did not exactly pan out (lol imagine winning the championship and your big signing “didn’t pan out,”) last season, I think this one will actually work. And by work, I mean he’ll make some super clutch playoff goals, and probably the goal of the season, then be an outside contender for the MLS MVP.
This signing will most certainly bring up the discussion of the MLS DP rule. I am ANTI DP Rule and salary cap. It’s just plain stupid. If the MLS wants to be globally competitive, then drop the fucking salary cap and DP rules. It’s true that the rich would only get richer, but boo f’ing who. You want to be able to compete, spend more money, and if you can’t spend it, than sell your team to someone who will. Also, MLS controlling the teams actions is garbage. Let ownership run their own stuff. BUT, because baby Gerber likes to run this league poorly, the Galaxy and United will have to let one of their DP go because they’ll have too many. God how dumb. But back to Pity. The signing is reported to be a nice little $14m in transfer fee which good googly Moogly is a sight to see. Man I love that teams are finally signing elite players in the middle of their prime rather than going after the old farts of the premier league (and by these teams I mean only ATL UTD). It will be interesting to see who Atlanta United moves but ultimately, the rich got richer and the best team of 2018 just upgraded hugely!
