USWNT play first game of 2019. Last loss of 2019? France 3 – USA 1

There aren’t many games in the last couple of years in which you can say the USWNT got their ass beat. But we went into France and got our ass whopped. Granted, yes, there were a couple of superstars on the unavailable list, but also, we got our ass beat. I mean, I’m not saying that depth isn’t a critical component for success, but the Allied powers didn’t take back Europe with just their starting 11. I will say this, it’s probably the best XI on earth. But if we’re planning on going back to France with hopes that the starters will just be healthy through this summer, then we best start pulling back on our expectations. And I don’t wanna hear, “But they’ve gone 20+ games without losing, so its okay to have lost.” FALSE! This could’ve been as much as a statement win as ever. It would’ve been the first time since the 1940’s that an American team has gone into France and have gotten a statement win.

I’ve got to admit it. As much as it sucked to watch them get their teeth kicked in, there was a lot of things that have you hope for this squad. 1- Alyssa Naeher is already in fantastic form. 2- Tierna Davidson is going to be a great utility player. Similar to what Julie Ertz was early on. 3- Jessica McDonald brought that extra something off the bench. Look, the fact is, first half was a total shit show, second half, meh. But a must win nonetheless. Imagine having gone to France and sucking the air out of the stadium with a dominating performance merely months before they host the World Cup. Anyways, can’t wait for the US to get their revenge in the Semifinals (Or quarterfinals)? Unless the French or too cowardly to get out of their group. It would be a real shame. Real shame.
