FINALLY! The NWSL is making moves. I’ve got to say, not many people have the criteria of work that Amanda has. I mean, the number of things Amanda has done in her short career is phenomenal. Going from an intern to the director of operations at the US W League, to president at Louisville FC to, now President at the NWSL. I’ve got to admit, she isn’t doing much for Toastmasters. Let’s admit it, as smart as Amanda is, she just happens to have a monotone voice. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic move for the NWSL. What the NWSL needed most is that face of the league executives. And while yes, she kind of already was the face, I think the title now makes it to were we can boo her for any mishaps in the league. It’s true. Take a look at all the grand professional leagues. They all have that face of execs that are there to boo. The NFL has Goodell, the NBA had Stern, the MLB had Selig. Hell, everyone used that WWF model of making the commish the bad guy. All I’m saying is, I won’t genuinely hate President Duffy if she went and said that a certain US coach should be fired if a tournament is not won in July. In fact, it is that charisma that we all want. Someone that is happy to come to work to screw over the athletes and hog all the money to themselves. It’s what NWSL has been missing.
That’s a joke of course. Listening to what she talked about all day long during the draft, she seems like she will be a fantastic commish. Although, if we’re being honest, no President has ever come into office with plans of creating a rift between their subjugates, and opposers. Except I don’t exactly expect President Duffy to come to create some sort of barrier that separates the players from ownership. In fact, I don’t even know where I got that idea. One of Duffy’s biggest tasks will be that of managing what type of league the NWSL. What is it’s identity? For example, the NFL is all about the Shield, the NBA prides itself on defending the Superstar athletes, and most soccer clubs are all about the team. So, I will love to see what Duffy will try to make the image of the league. But if we’re being honest, the league isn’t helping themselves by letting the ownership at Sky Blue carry on with the way it is. Shit is downright fucked up what they’re doing in New Jersey. The best move is to buy the team from them and relocate to NYC. I mean the fact that there isn’t a team already there is mindblowing.
There you have it. We here at BackupAllstar hope President Duffy all the best. We raise our glass to a successful reign and we wish for the growth of the league with lots of expansion teams. Also, maybe let’s get off of Oprah TV and maybe get on ESPN. That’ll be great.
